K.I.S.S. - K-9s in Special Service began operations in the spring of 2003. It was started with one goal in mind, to train rescued Labrador retrievers for individuals with disabilities. In other words, to save not one, but two lives. The organization was started by two women, a trainer, and a woman with a disability who needed the help of a Service dog. The collaboration turned into a lifelong friendship, as well as the beginning of the K.I.S.S. program.
K.I.S.S. is a very unique Service Dog organization in a number of ways. We follow our Mission Statement "Helping save dogs to help save people" because we realize that there are so many wonderful dogs being euthanized in shelters across the country every day. So instead of having a breeding program, we choose to use strictly rescued animals for our program. We believe this is a WIN WIN! We can save a dog, make a difference in the life of the dog, train him so he can make a difference in the life of YOU our client! Everyone benefits and we are doing our part to keep down the euthanasia rate at our local shelters.
Each dog that is chosen is evaluated by our trainers before being accepted into the program. We know that not every dog will make it all the way through and become a Service dog, those that do not, will be placed back with our partner Greater Dayton Labrador Retriever Rescue and will be adopted as a well trained family pet.
K.I.S.S. also has a very unique training program. We customize out training to your individual needs. All dogs will go through a certain level of training, once that is achieved, the program is individualized for our clients.
